Title: The Tree of Life
Size: 61 x 91cm
Medium: oil on canvas, finger painted
Description: The tree, branching outwards with strength and vigor, is a symbol of the Torah, the “Eitz Chaim”, “a tree of life to those who grasp it.” A theme of pairing occurs throughout. The mystical “marriage” of Hashem and the Jewish people which occurred at Sinai is symbolized by the bridal couple. On the left, a Jew and the Torah are inseparable from each other. Both images are “embraced” by the wings of the Keruvim which guard the entrance to Gan Eden. The Shabbat candles emit a holy light and the peacocks and mythical garden refer to the concept of “Tiferet” the beauty of the Torah.
